I doubt there is anywhere in NY that is hiring right? Anyone know of any place that is? If so is it civil service or what. Ny is such a civil service state...sux I guess the good thing is the vols are becoming exstinct, and the have to put on staff sooner or later...:p

Well unfortunately NY is a civil service state. There are not many places that I am aware of that hire Full-Time FF that aren't civil service certified. Some of the larger manufacturer's have their own FD. For example Kodak here in Rochester has their own, I am unsure of how they hire but i know it is not civil service. Firefiftyfive Mattydale is near Syracuse in good old Upstate New York. You just got on with the FDNY right! Congratulations, and be safe.

No pun intended about the vols.. It is just a matter of truth across the country that the numbers are dwindling.. I have full respect for vols.. That being said.. Mattydale is near Syr yes..Pick up a IFSTA manual and read about cross lays... Otherwise known as Mattydale Lays. I hear you with Kodak..Monroe county is allot like Onondaga county in the sense that comb or paid depts seem to be taking over. It seems to be typical for countys surrounding citys in NY. Example monroe, onondaga, albany co ect ect...What about airport firefighting? Anyone know any chances to get on at the airports in NY? Prob civil service also...

Take the test, show up and pass...that's pretty much the norm in most places....there are many paid depts in NYS...most are small...and there are even Federal FF spots....it doesn't happen over night...so be paitent...
