BLM has new weapon to fight wildfires

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - As wildfire season approaches,
firefighters will have a new weapon to fight the flames.
The Bureau of Land Management has purchased a new firefighting
technology.
B-L-M spokesman David Boyd said the ten-foot-tall monster truck
is one of only three in the country.
The Wildland Ultra XT six-by-six Water Tender cost 318-thousand
dollars. That's about 100-thousand dollars more than a traditional
fire engine.
B-L-M firefighter R-J Johnson said the new machine can go where
the typical fire engine can't. He said it can carry more water to
more fires and help keep down costs.
The Utah fire engine will be based in St. George and used by the
Color Country Interagency Fire Agency. It will be used to fight
wildland fires in southwestern Utah and on the Arizona Strip south
of the Utah state line.

I've seen several 6x6 water tenders, all were late 70s/mid 80s Autocars, and most assuredly did not cost 300 grand but the did go places the ordinary water tender did not, but of course were no where near as manuverable as a proper engine

There are different configurations, one of which is a tender, another is as an engine. One district near me has a tender, while we have the engine.
