POSTED: 4:05 pm PDT June 17, 2005
RICHLAND, Wash. -- A wildfire is burning Friday afternoon across about 600 acres of the Hanford nuclear reservation north of Richland.
Spokesman Geoff Tyree says the fire is burning in brushland in an area called the Hammer training facility, where people are trained for waste cleanup, firefighting and other tasks.
Tyree says no injuries are reported, and no Hanford facilities are being threatened by the blaze.
The fire was reported just before 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, but its cause is not immediately known. Tyree says its growth has been slowed, but it is not yet contained.
