I need Help. My name is SPC Jonathan Hart and I am currently serving in Iraq. When I come back home I am interested in becoming a career firefighter. I have seen a few links to sites that offer online classes and materials but I am still searching for the best way to get as involved as posible in the process of becoming a firefighter. If anyone has any advice or suggestions (possibly books or training tools that have personally helped you) it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Spc. Hart,

So far I'm really leaning toward trainingdivision.com. If you haven't seen the site I'd really recommend stopping by. I have yet to see an on-line school that would benefit those of us that are still active duty this well. The thing that makes this program work for me is the fact that you do all the course work on-line self paced. Knock it out in a month and come home, great, go to the academy for two weeks and you're done. They understand that military members may very well take longer than usual and are cool about it. Only drawback in my book? T/A and MGI Bill won't cover you. It's a technical school not a college. Other than that I can't wait to start. Best of luck to ya.

Many of the guys that I went through the Fire Academy with were former members of the United States Armed Forces. Please excuse my limited knowledge of the system as I have never been in the military. But the guys I went through school with, and new hires that our department has sent through the academy have used their benefits 100%. So you may want to check into it a little further. We also have the guys using the benefits while in Paramedic school also.

I got out of the military 4 yrs ago last month. I was a FF while I was in but found it hard transfering from MIL to CIV because of lack of training i received in the military. (USMC) Anyways, Wherever your from get in touch with your states Fire Academy you can usually find this info on the net. Contact somebody in the training division about what you should do to get certifications. There's alot of details about different things. Email if you have questions I may be able to help.
