Hello, I'm very interested in learning more about becoming a firefighter. But I have no idea where to start. What requirements do firehouses usually ask for when hiring, and how does one get those fulfilled? If someone could please help me or send me a link with information that could help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

To start out, the competition to be a career firefighter is very intense in large depts like new york and LA county up to 30,000 people could apply.

most departments use a similar hiring process some skip some steps

The process:
1 hand in application
2 take a written test
3 take a physical test
4 have an oral board interview
5 do a backgorund test
6 take a medical/psyc test
7 Chiefs oral interview

most fire departments will put you through an academy after you get hired. before you get hired some require you to be an EMT-B or a paramedic, some require you to be firefighter 1 or 2 you can get these certifications at your local community or technical college.
