I was wondering if going through a fire academy and getting your ff1 helps in getting a job as a ff and how much it speeds up the employment process?
i also have taken and passed my emtb but have not taken the nreg test yet.

Having an academy, FF1 and EMT1 helps. But everyone has
those and to be marketable, you really need to be a
Paramedic.
Most FDs want FF/PMs.

So should I drop FF academy and enroll into paramedic instead?

How much firefighting experance do you have?
I would not drop FF1. After I would try and find a job as a reserve or volunteer. THEN I would look into PM school.
Good luck

I know it says NJ in my location but I am in the final stages of being picked up by a major fire department in SOCAL. No I am not a PM

That's really great kyle, thanks for the advice also. I have no firefighting experience, have 7 years military police and have finished my emtb and firetech1 college classes, i haven't taken my nation registry yet.
how long was your process? sounds like you have it all under control. this is all new to me and i don't want to be bouncing around going in loops.
thanks again

I have been a firefighter since 1993. I became a career firefighter in 1997. The process with the department that I am looking to get hired had the written test in Jan. It's a long process but very worth the wait. Most importaint: LEARN HOW TO TAKE A FIRE DEPARTMENT INTERVIEW.

So would you say buying captbobs course is recommended or are there free resources out there that can help you learn how to interview properly? Just curious the steps you took in it all.
Thanks for all the help.
