I know we are a long way off from the next time Peer Review's occur, but I have wondered what the selection process is for selecting Peer Reviewer's. I have written our grants and have been fairly successfull so far, and I have an interest in experiencing that aspect of the grant process.
Anyone with information would be helpfull. I live in Illinois if that helps.

Here in Wisconsin I think they go through the State Fire Chiefs Assn and I also think (not sure) the Wisconsin State Firefighters Assn. Be careful though, I think if you are ever on a peer review you basically disqualify yourself from writing more AFG's. I think they make you sign a paper saying you can't use anything you see or learn at the peer review for gain.

Every state that I've found any info on says they go through either the State FM's office, or Fire Chief's Association. One of those ought to have info or a direction to point you in.
One of the peer reviewers will probably post the part about what you can and can't do after serving as one before I get a chance to call up one to see what the exact wording is. I don't think it's that you can't work on grants anymore, but I'm 99% sure you can't operate as a for-profit grant writer in the future.

Nothing against anyone doing it for a fee now, but I couldn't bring myself to charge another department to write, or help them write, their grant. Well, other than lunch (free + food = ME!). Nothing wrong with making any money off of it, but I don't really feel like doing that.
I am also curious about writing future grants. It seems like that would give you an "unfair edge" in the grant process since you know what they look for.
Any reviewer's thoughts/opinions?

Haven't surfed around Firehouse enough I guess. Have been reading the posts. We recieved an e-mail from DHS 2 days ago. Only asked 8 questions and said this mail was only a preliminary review of application and it had recieved favorable peer review.
Are we in the pipe or still in the hosebed?

It depends on which one of those descriptions you're hoping for: in the hosebed like in Backdraft, so you're about to get lucky? ;)
Or in the pipe as in on your way to being awarded?
Either way, yes, it's on its way to becoming funded. Then you can go celebrate in the hosebed. :D
