I really don't want to comment on that video right now, all I will say is that these people make us all look bad, but to lie once caught. thats shameful

I commented on this yesterday w/o having seen it. I opined that the officers wer probably doing their jobs by commandeering clothing for the victims. Sadly, I was wrong.

These officers were shopping for sizes. They were looting. They should be charged with the LA equivalent of Official Misconduct.

Again, I was wrong.

Sick and wrong. That is just sad that these officer are even wasting their time breaking the law when they could be out searching for some of the thousands missing and dead, or protecting our fellow firefighters who are getting shot at while trying to actually do their job. Is it to much to ask them to do their job. Sickening.

lets hope that this is not overlooked in the weeks and months to come, and that these officers get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Don't get me wrong I have real good relations with police and law enforcement, but to me those so called officers depected in the video are scum and deserve prosecution.

Let's hope their brass sees this!

PS: If you're going to loot, don't do it in uniform with your nametag on!

...or at the very least, stop the hundred or so looters running around right there in Wal Mart....

"We were filling a cart up with some much needed supplies for some sick/injured/cold/starving babies who were left w/o a family."
Some bull-plop statement like that will be what not only allows those two pieces of crap to avoid prosecution, but to keep their jobs as well.
Human garbage wearing a badge. Sickening.
Who didn't qualify for their jobs, if they did?
KC

P.S. I am glad to see you are OK Chief Leblanc. You have been in my thoughts and prayers.

I couldn't find it to post here, but I saw another story where there was a photo of a NOPD officer in full uniform coming out of a store with a handful of DVDs. Disgusting but like the pictures of the civilian looters, for everyone that is doing these things there are many more that are simply struggling to survive and helping their fellow man. For proof, just read dmleblanc's thread about people stranded at the convention center bagging trash because they didn't want their town to look so bad when the rescuers arrived.

Just like our FF arsonists, these looting cops deserve the strongest possible punishment but I'm pretty certain they're a very small minority.

I wasnt going to comment on this. AT first I was upset, but then I had to watch it again and as the anchor man said you cant help but laugh.

What makes it sad is people are out there dieing and the police (in that video) are not even taking things that could be useful to help the citizens. There taking what they want and need. As HFRH28 said, hope the brass sees the video, but at this point unfortunatley what can they do. The city is unable to collect tax dollars, and these officers are nto going to get paid anytime soon so they dont care.

Some times I wounder if I grew up in the same world as these people!

I can understand getting water and food... but this is just so wrong. To see cops in uniform doing this.... do they thing that a single person in NO is going to respect the police force after this is all over?

I can't even begin to explain how mad I am right now

Just think! The mayor was ****ed at the response to the city.He should be asking his police chief!why just one day after the storm the city is out of control?I hope the New Orleans Mayor has new socks to cover the foot thats in his mouth.I believe once the smoke clears the main failure falls on the city shoulders. One report has 50 % of the police force walked off the job!I hope they can locate those officers .If so, maybe he can purchase some walmart socks cheap to cover that foot in his mouth.

Sounds as if the NOPD has lots of problems. They just reported on MSNBC that approx. 2/3 of the force quit or weren't there doing their job. They left.

Sadly New Orleans Police have a long standing reputation for being one of the most corrupt police forces in the counry. Some are worse than the people they arrest. I saw it first hand on a past visit to the city. No big surprise that in a time of disaster their true colors are coming out...

Yes anyone caught looting should be brought to justice. We can all armchair quarterback, but I wonder if we lost everything, chaos and anarchy all around what would we do? Some of complain if we have to do work that is out of our job description, our tours are too long and that we are underpaid. We are still able to go off shift and then complain at home about how bad we have it. There are three types of people: Those that make things happen; Those that watch things happen; Those that wonder what happened. i.e. GWB P.S. Be careful what you ask for you may get it

When you have an organization as large (and as, often is the case, corrupt) as the NOPD, not everyone will live up to the ideal standards that we usually hold police officers to. The saying goes that there are bad apples in every bunch, and these two ladies obviously fall into that category.

What makes this so bad is that they have brothers and sisters on the force who are actually out there doing the job -- saving and protecting lives. The latest reports say that at least two NOPD officers have committed suicide. So while some officers have experienced so much that they have to take their own lives... these lazy ladies go shopping. What a disgrace.

I haven't heard or read a single person complaining about people taking food or other types of basic needs products from the stores. They were ruined and they were going to get thrown out anyway.

People are focused on looters who stole TV's, electronics, jewelry, and the like. Regardless of who did the looting, it is wrong.

I like how the officer starts to ask what he is doing there towards the end being in the store.

yeah and the NOPD needs a vacation from their looting. OH I know lets send them to Las Vegas!
Not that it isn't happening, but I haven't heard of FF being caught in the act. At least not caught in the act on camera.
I know that there are a few bad apples in every bushel but this certainly seems a bit excessive.

Its ashame that it has come to people looting especially NOPD. If their not going to do their jobs they need to turn in their bages and then loot because they are setting a really bad example for people even though it is probably to late but still people should use there brains and get the hell out of there because its not safe to stay.

Have you ever seen the episodes of COPS in New Orleans? The police department plays by a whole different set of rules. There have been articles upon articles of the rampant corruption in NO and the NOPD. Police officer starting pay at around $13,000 a year.

I hate to say it, but it had to happen some time. Humans will be humans... and when you see it done enough... you fall to temptation. But still no excuse.

I just hope they loose there job for that.

I embarrasses us public servants... :(

P.S. The comments by the reporter are pretty funnny thought! haha :D

Almost at a loss for word. What can a person say? I could understand if they where taking food and water. For all the good police officers down there sorry for the black eye this gives them. All the good men and women down there busting the butts to keep the city some what safe and they have to protect it from there own people.

Sounds as if the NOPD has lots of problems. They just reported on MSNBC that approx. 2/3 of the force quit or weren't there doing their job. They left.

That's what we're hearing down here. There was an NOPD lieutenant to TV a few nights ago who gave a interview to WAFB. He and his fellow officers (who were turning in their badges) felt that they were hung out to dry on this thing. They were left on the streets in the days following the storm with no food or water, no radio communications, no fuel for their cars, no relief and no backup when the thugs started getting out of hand. There was basically no plan in place to deal with the aftermath of this thing. Many officers ran out of ammo in firefights with the looters and anarchists. The lieutenant stated in his interview that if NOPD wanted their car back, they could pick it up at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales (a shelter some 80 miles away) because he wasn't going back there.

Yes, there have been suicides among the police force.

A few NOPD officers, as well as some NOFD firefighters, were housed at the Gonzales Fire Department. One of the NOPD officers, a female officer, said that she escaped from a firefight by swimming across a canal to safety. She emptied 4 clips of ammo returning fire while swimming. She and her partner and some other NOPD officers commandeered a couple of Cadillacs from a dealership and escaped to Gonzales. There was really nothing else they could do.

My heart goes out to all the public safety professionals who were in the middle of this thing...the firefighters, the police officers, the EMS folks, the doctors and nurses who stayed with thier patients while their hospitals were under seige....escorting patients to the evac helicopters on the roof while being fired upon from the ground.

My cousin, a young doctor at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, escaped from that hell hole by boat, accompanying a critically ill patient to dry ground and then by ambulance to the triage center in Baton Rouge. He then got back on an ambulance and returned to New Orleans, back in the boat and back to LSU Medical Center to care for his other patients (He eventually made it out for good and is staying with his parents in Donaldsonville).

The public safety workers of New Orleans and surrounding areas have been through hell this week, no doubt about it...I don't doubt that some of them resorted to behavior they aren't proud of...the ladies on that video should be ashamed of how they spit on those brave officers who tried to do their jobs under impossible circumstances....
