This is a thread title I copied from another message board. It is meant to be respectful of those we knew or admired and want the other participants to be aware of the passing of that individual.
I'll start off with yet another TV icon from my youth who just passed away.
Don Adams. (http://www.tvsquad.com/2005/09/26/breaking-news-don-adams-dead-at-82/)
Aside from giving us classic lines ("sorry about that chief"), I had no idea till today that Don served in the USMC and survived the Battle of Guadacanal.

It gets even more amazing then that...
In Guadalcanal he survived the deadly blackwater fever and was returned to the States to become a drill instructor, acquiring the clipped delivery that served him well as a comedian.
Can you imagine the guys in the 60s trying to tell there twelve year olds that Maxwell Smart had been there Marine Corps drill instructor!!!!
Amazing how many of the "greatest generation" where quiet about their service.

When I was in The Corps, there was always a rumor running around that he was a DI, but it was difficult to confirm.
We just wondered what type of DI he was considering what they could do to you badk in 1943 - 1945 time frame.

I never missed an episode of "Get Smart". Don Adams was brilliant. I put him in the same comedic class as Soupy Sales and Ernie Kovacs.
And don't forget; he was also the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo. A very cool cartoon.
Hope there's a Get Smart marathon on TV Land this weekend.

Okay,so how many comedians today can make you split a gut laughing and not use a cuss word every few seconds or talk about things that most folks just don't want to know about?
I like a good comedian who can cuss and make you laugh but the better ones do it without the profanity.

Of course, Smart's most famous catch phrase was "would you believe..."
Honest to God, when I heard Al Michaels utter those famous words during the USA/USSR hockey game at the '84 Olympics, what came to my mind was Maxwell Smart.
Would you believe in miracles?
Yes!

Tim Wilson is one of the funniest comedians I've heard in years. He mixes political comment, history and redneck into his music and not only makes you laugh,he makes you think when you stop and really listen.
He's not one that totally avoids cuss words but he doesn't go out of his way to use them either.
Rita Rudner is one that I can think of....

And he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
We were at a comedy club one night. Tim Wilson was performing. After his show, which was hilarious, we were in the bar and in walks Tim Wilson. He came over to our table and we got to talking about fire departments and he told us that his brother was a paramedic somewhere in Tennessee, I believe.
We talked until it was time for him to do his second show. He autographed his CD for my wife, Kim. It says "To Ki-um; Love Ti-um." Funny.
True story.

Every time I hear of a great singer, actor, comedian, etc. that passes away, I feel a great sense of loss, especially for the younger generation...They just don't make 'em like they used to. Clean humor, music and movies that I don't have to worry about my kids seeing.
Jackie Gleason, Bing Crosby, Lucille Ball, Red Skelton, The Duke, Don Adams, Bob Denver, just to name a few, and the list goes on and on. :(
Rest in Peace and God Bless you all!

The early days of SNL were the best. I loved Roseanne Roseanna-Dana and of course...the Samurai Warrior! Gilda Radner was a great comediene (sp?).
On the music side....I'll admit it...I liked John Denver. Saw him in concert in the 80s and the man had a great voice (in most his songs...can't say I like all of them).

Gowdy was such a gentleman.
Read his book "Cowboy at the Mike" when it first came out. Might have to read it again, just because.

I couldn't figure out who the heck Tom Irwin was ... I clicked on the link and went to the kitchen to get some iced tea. Came back and there was a CNN page open with a story about Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. Took me a minute to get why the story was on my screen. LOL
 That's not nice to confuse someone who just got up in the middle of the night (got tired of tossing and turning). ;) :o
Anyway, I'm not too shocked, not that I've ever seen his show, only formed an opinion from what I've heard on the news/tv .... and just always expected him to die in this type of incident.

I saw the guy's show, he was energetic, charismatic and clearly loved what he did. A great loss for Australia I'm sure.

I didn't "hope" for him to die, although I expected it more than once.
Sad part is, it sounds like it was an accident - that he inadvertantly stepped on the stingray and it got him.
RIP, Steve. :(

He didn't step on it........ Story goes that he was swimming above it and accidentally boxed it in, sending the stingray into dfensive mode....... The stingray spun and then attacked.........
He was killed instantly, due to the shape of the barb........ When it is pulled out, it actually tears at the flesh..........

You always thought that the Crocodile Hunter would get himself into any strange predicament, but always get himself out of it.
Bitten or stung; he appeared invincible.
He was a library of knowledge, he got those watching excited and he introduced us to a world that we might never have known without his films.
He was unpretentious, engaging and entertaining.
Dying from the sting of a stingray is right up there with having a piano fall on you.
I will miss him. And I will continue to watch his shows in syndication.

Either way, this makes two. Unless I've missed one.
