Try a store like gallyans, dont know if you are familiar with them also try EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) or any skiing company. You want something with wool definatley and want it loose fitting(from exp.) wool wicks sweat away from your foot. and looser fitting so that you dont constrict ANY blood flow, at all! LAYERS of socks helps also

Wool also won't burn as fast as cotton or worse, polyester.Stay clear of anything polyester in it.

Get a pair of neoprene socks, completley waterproof, warm and comfy...but they don't breath well, so they might smell if you wear them for an extended period, but Febreeze takes care of it.

pfd4life, why would you wear a pair of socks that just beg for a good steam burn? I work with a dept in alaska where our average winter structural fire is 20 and I've worked as cold as -65 with wind chill, and the only alteration I make is I put a second cotton sock on after it reaches 10.
Seriously. Cotton athletic socks work great for me. I tend not to plan for burn protection of them because 1- they're a natural product, and 2- if I'm trying to put fire out on my socks, I need to reevaluation the situation of being interior.
Just my three cents worth (one more than prople wanted to hear)

I've got a few pairs of fleece socks by Northwest Territories. Personally I throw another pair of regular socks over them so they dont move around and cause more problems, but nothing ive found keeps my feet warmer.

I've never had a steam burn in my boots, and I've been in some hot sh*t while wearing those socks. I normally wear them only on the coldest nights.
Plattsfire2....yes washing does work.
