What type of knots are usually needed for firefighter and rescue work?

The only one I know by heart is the bowline... I know there's a bunch of others...

I haven't started FF1 classes yet, but I'd like to have certain things memorized before I show up! Thanks!

Get the Essentials manual. There is a whole section on knot tying, what each knot is used for and how to tie it.

Bowline, figure-8, figure-8 with follow through, figure-8 on a bight, becket bend, clove hitch, square knot, half hitch, and my favorite - the handcuff knot ;)

The thing that I did on the river was learn a few good knots and not the whole manual.I figured out quickly which I used more often and forgot about the rest.
That worked for me instead of confusing myself, which isn't all that hard to do to begin with.

If you go to http://www.animatedknots.com
and look under "Climbing Knots", there's an animated Prusik Knot.
Not sure if that's the same thing as a Prusik Loop.

Look under the climbing section. The knot was created primarily for climbing.

The loop used in this picture is what i refered to as the prusik loop. Looking for the proper way to mate the two ends.

When you can tie those, practice with firefighting gloves on...then with your eyes closed...then with your eyes closed and firefighting gloves on...then behind your back...then behind your back with firefighting gloves... :)
