I was just wondering what length of time other departments have for Probies. With our department it's 6 months, and I joined in early May--so guess what! I'm losing my Probie title... but I'm going to be a probie for a long time, I'm the youngest by far!

Ours in one year. Not only for new hires, but if you get promoted you go through another years probation at your new rank.

Probies here are on that status until they complete all four basic mandatory classes (Basic, Structure, Hazmat response skills, and vehicle rescue.) also must make a certain amount of calls during that time. Since they only run basic, stucture and hazmat twice a year, it can take awhile.

6 months minimum, after which time we can vote to remove you from probationary status, extend probationary status, or drop you from the Dept. outright.

BTW - Due to the forum title display limitations - the title of this thread reads " How long is your probie...." and that just REALLY, ummm, get's yer attention. :o

Two years,unless you are a " transplant" from another department,where ,
if ,you are able to complete our company's probational training program , and
have completed Delaware State Fire School Basic Firefighting Skills(includes
WMD),Structural Firefighting Skills ,Hazardous Materials Response, Vehicle Rescue, CPR/AED or the equivalent(NFPA FF2 &/or as decided by the chiefs).
Very similar to the requirements of "Tbonetrexler"s company.

One year for new hires...Can be extended for 6 more months if evaluation rating of "does not meet expectations" is given.

Six months for promotion to new rank.

Our department requires 6 months of probation, following that you must complete the 88 hour essentials within a year of your application if you want
to maintain you active member status. Good luck and be safe

Pretty much the same here. Cadets go through a 6 month academy and upon completion are probationary for 6 more months.
