Here in Ohio, A FFI Cert is 120hrs. In order to be considered to be at the level of FFII, you need an additional class of 120hrs for a total of 240hrs.

240hrs = FFII in Ohio

I dont know how it is in Cali, but in Florida I think you need like 480hrs to be considered FFII.

Hope this helps

Are you talking about IFSAC FFI and FFII? These are what a majority of departments require. There are classes and tests that are to be taken to show that you have a grasp of the knowledge and skills required.

Each state has their own qualifications and they vary greatly

In KY- 150 hours for a volunteer and 400 hours for a paid person. There is no level I or II. So by that method all you have to do is sit in class and you will eventually get you certs.

FF2 deals mostly with vehicle extrication and tools etc...
I dont know about in Cali, but all i have to to do is go sit through a class or study and register to take the written and skills test, and some homework assignments that are required for it.

Not sure what the actual required hours are for them, but i know my FF1 was supposedly 96 hours.

In Georgia we use the NPQ standards. For NQP Firefighter II you must hold the following certifications as a prereq:

-Georgia Basic Firefighter (152 hours)
-NPQ Firefighter I (Pass 18 praticles)
-Hazardous Materials Operations (40 hours)

Having the skills to pass other practicles under the following categories:
-Assisting Rescue Teams
-Crash Victim Extrication
-Fire Origin
-Flammable Liquids Fire Control
-Hose Service Testing
-Hydrant Flow Testing
-Incident Management
-LP Gas Cylinder Fire Control
-Maintenance
-Pre Incident Survey
-Structural Fire Control

The requirements may vary from state to state, but that is what it takes for NPQ. Some one correct me if I left something out.
