We had a hybrid car awareness class tonight and i thought about a question (being water rescue minded) is the recovery of a submerged hybrid different then a domestic? any help in this would be great ty

I just attended a class on hybrid vehicles that Holmotro put on. According to the MANUFACTURER, there is no difference. To the best of my knowledge there is no actual real life test data out there so be careful and stay away from the orange wires!!

All Hybrids have GFI circuits that will shut down the flow of current if the vehicle goes into the water. Even if this circuit failed, the wheels would have to be turning with the transmission in gear for current to flow. The reason that there is a safety recommendation to stay away from the orange wires is bucause the capacitors take about 5 minutes to completely discharge. The high voltage battery is DC and designed to interrupt the circuit if it gets wet.

Extrication underwater is VERY rare. and hooking a car to pull it out is relativly safe. get with the dealers and look for tow points prior to the incident comming in.
