The fire chief of Linwood VFD (Magnolia,KY) is in a Louisville hospital with 2nd degree burns on his legs, stomach, chest and arms. As I understand what happened the brush truck was in front of the fire spraying water when they ran out of water. The truck got partially stuck and needed to back up. The nozzelman escape the flames. The fire chief got out of the truck to pick up the hose so he could back up when the fire over took him and the truck. The truck did not burn up but was damaged. The engine was overrun by 20’ flame lengths.

If it is true, and only IF it is true, that Chief put himself (and the nozzleman)in a dangerous situation and completely ignored long-standing and universal standards for wildland firefighting.
Lookouts
Safety zones
Frontal assault on a fire
Unburned fuel between you and the fire
Safety first
