Is there a certification for a RIT TEAM in New York state or any other. I know the teamates have to be certified but want about a fire dept. The NFPA standards don't tell you to be certified.

NJ does not have a State level, but some Counties have created a program to certify to County level.

There is no official certification given to the firefighters (State). But we do give an "in house" certification for record purposes to show who has had the training, and the regular updated training so we can keep track of who is staying profescent (sp) in this area.

No there isn't. The "qualifications" are based on what the Authority Having Juristiction say. The NFPS standard for Volunteers just states a RIT team needs to be inplace.
My personal views on RIT....EVERYONE on the fire ground should be trained. All members operating at a fire should be "qualified" to act as a RIT team. RIT training to me, is a set of skills that need to be taught at the entry level and developed over ones career. In my time, I have witnessed Depts that spent so much time on FAST training, but couldn't advance a line, vent a building, or keep a one or two room job from razing an entire structure. Seems to me people today just want to walk around with thier chest out and wear thier "I fight what you fear" t-shirt that has a "RIT Trained" symbol on it.
Sorry for the rant....:D

In Milwaukee, I think that the 3rd arriving engine is automatically the RIT team. So I think they train everyone. Don't know for sure though because I'm employed in a suburb right outside Milwaukee.
