Thursday, May 10, 2007
A group of Kentucky firefighters is heading to Florida to help with wildfires there.
Eleven firefighters and five pumper units left for emergency duty Thursday morning. Florida officials asked the Kentucky Division Of Forestry for help to fight dozens of fires burning over hundreds of miles.
Kentucky is part of an agreement among forestry divisions in the southern states to help out with widespread fires. This isn't the first time Kentucky crews have been sent to Florida. Teams of firefighters from Florida came to Kentucky to help with fires here in 1999 and 2001.
