We have the opportunity to obtain a large amount of hemlock timber, I would like to know if their is a reason not to use hemlock as a cribbing material. I would assume it would be weaker than Southern Yellow Pine, and heavier.
Thanks

 Try getting a hold of a lumber supplier or a contractor who builds with it. They should know what the engineered crush strength is in both horizontial and vertical plane. This is information they need to meet building codes...I do know that Southern Pine is rated at 500 psi in horizontial plane from information from the Southern Building Council so maybe you could also look in your areas local building codes.
