My name is Keith Thomas, I am a Paramedic with the city of New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina our city has been in a rebuilding phase and part of that rebuilding phase is our division. For 2 years now we have been putting together members in order to form our SOD. In this Division we are training on Swift Water, Boat Rescue, Rope Rescue, Trench and Confined Space, along with Extrication. Currently we have put in place several SOP's for these specialties, i.e., SWAT Medic and Swift Water. Now we are working hard to gather information to assist us in putting together a set of Boat Rescue SOP's. These SOP's will be all New Orleans but we are looking at other agencies to give us guidance in this matter, since we are new to this concept.

If you can help we would greatly appreciate it. All SOP's will be confidential and will only be used as a guide not used as our own. If you or someone you know can help. Thank you for your time.

Hi Keith,

I'm Mike Dunn with Emergency Response Training in Port Allen, LA, just upriver from you. We do a lot of small boat training and rescue standby jobs on the Mississippi around the Baton Rouge area. I'd be happy to share info with you. ert@ertrescue.com or 888-639-4600

I'd give George Lewis from Rescue 3 Va a call or email(george@rescue3va.com). He used to be THE swiftwater boat guy for Fairfax County, VA(recently retired) and now teaches boat ops(and swiftwater rescue) around the country for Rescue 3.
