I know this is a little off topic, but in our small world of Firehouse.com Grants, k3twpfire has been a big help to many of those here (including myself)

I caught a news article coming on one of my subscriber lists this morning and I believe Steve is affected.

Please keep those involved in your thoughts!

On Friday, February 1st, 2008 Kankakee Township (IL) FPD Chief Matthew Hubly, age 43, was attending a FD related meeting...the chief was previously at the fire station shoveling snow. While at the meeting the Chief became warm and diaphoretic. They decided to take the chief to the hospital to get him checked out. As they left the site, the chief became unresponsive. An ambulance was called. The fire district's ambulance provider was unavailable and the Kankakee City FD was called....and arrived on the scene and performed defibrillation. The Chief was transported to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was revived and taken to the cath lab. He went into cardiac arrest two more times at the hospital. He is currently on a ventilator and unresponsive at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Thoughts and Prayers are needed for Chief Hubly.

Thank you for all of your support. Just for an update, the Chief has developed a blood clot in his right atrium. They are waiting for his platelet count to increase in order to give him heparin to dissolve the clot. This has certainly been quite a shock for us. He is certainly a fighter. During his three cardiac arrests he was under CPR for a total of 60 minutes. One of the cardiac arrests was during his cath lab procedure. His blood pressure and pulse are remaining stable. All of his other systems appear normal. The two areas of concern now are any brain damage and that the clot in his atrium breaks loose. I will keep you updated.

"The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever."

It is my prayer that the God who comforts those who mourn and gives strength to the broken-hearted will display His tender mercy and love to Chief Hubly's family, to his department, and to all those you grieve at his untimely passing.

My sincere condolences.
