Never heard that rumor. I do remember the concert at Altamont. If one has never seen the documentary "Gimme Shelter" it is worth one viewing. The concert aspect is unremarkable. The Rolling Stones hired the Hell's Angels as security. They proceeded to park their motorcycles in front of the stage. As is the case at venues that use festival seating the crowd has a tendency to rush the stage. The Hell's Angels of course didn't particularly like the crowd getting closer to their bikes which they refused to move.

What is interesting about the movie is watching the aggression that slowly builds culminating in the stabbing that's mentioned in the article.

No kidding...Every time I see Richards I think of "Weekend at Bernie's".
