Reading thru Safer guidance again on page 33 in section 4 item F leaves me a little confused.

"Federal employees arre prohibited from serving in any capacity (paid or unpaid) on any proposal submitted under this grant opportunity. Federal employees may not receive funds under this award."

Does this just reinterate that Federal Fire Departments are not eligible or is it saying in Recruitment and Retention I cant target trying to recruit volunteers from the local US Forest Service office? In fact if I work for the Social Security Administration in my regular paid job, but at night I'm a volunteer firefighter and grant writer for my local vollie dept, I am ineligible to do either of these things?

This is tripping me up a little.

My main question is that our department recently has been involved with several calls with our mutual-aid departments that have not gone as well as they should have, and I am interested in responses as to how our department can open dialogue with these other departments, in an attempt to better all of our departments involved.
Understanding that our department is not perfect by any means, we consistently train and re-train, and critique each incident to try and accomplish more in the area of improvement.
However, our mutual-aid will generally appear frustrated and angered that we would like to open this type of dialogue by insisting that our department is just trying to run the incidents and place blame on the other departments, which is far from the case.
In fact, we wish these departments and ours to grow and learn and get better at each call which is not happening without any conversation amongst these departments and ours. Fact is, these departments feel that they are doing everything correct and proper.
Again, not being perfect, we are situated where we are called on many times with these departments, and our members are getting frustrated that the same situation with them arises at each incident and it is not getting any better.

Chase (JP Morgan-Chase to be official I guess) is holding a contest through Facebook with people voting for funding. There will be 100 $25k prizes and 5 $1mil prizes. Or donations as the case may be. They say that 500,000 charities are already in their database which was compiled from IRS records on 501c3 organizations with less than $10million in their latest filing to the IRS. Which should be just about everyone but the largest career departments.

Facebook page is: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommun...9&jp_avt=35813

In case you don't find your department here's the form to submit it for inclusion: http://survey.chase.com/wix/p32683536.aspx

Only caveat here is your department must be a 501c3, not a c4 or c7.

To vote you have to be on Facebook, and each person only gets 20 votes. Voting is until December 11th.

Good luck - Brian

I have been tasked with putting together ice rescue capabilities in our department. I have zero knowledge about ice rescue, but can seek guidance from the county's volunteer rescue squad (which is currently our only solution for ice rescue). I was curious if anyone has a sample SOG they could provide and a list of necessary equipment.
