Default Pod Applications

I'm doing some reseach on a truck that can transport pods for various applications (i.e. command, hazmat, USAR, etc.). Can anyone point to me some photos of trucks like that are used by US fire departments? All I've found are European vehicles and that's not what I'm looking for. I've seen some in years past but don't recall who operates them.

If your department does operate this type of vehicle, I'd certainly be interested in receiving feedback.

Thanks.

FDNY,

Prince George's County
Anne Arundel County
Montgomery County
(all in Maryland)

Operate roll-back type dumpster trucks that are modified for this purpose. They carry different pods, such as collapse rescue, mass casualty, mass decon, and Haz Mat operations.

I am sure there are more departments out there, I just cant think of them off the top of my head right now.

Westford MA uses a modified hook-loader for its service unit, which carries a 300/500 brush skid unit, a flatbed for hauling an ATV, a HazMat box, and a generator unit.

Gwinnett County, GA operates on a Freightliner chassis, though I do not have any information on what it is used for. Indianapolis has one on a Ford chassis as well.

The picture attachment is not working, I will put them up later.

At Seagrave, we just built 8 Mass Casualty Units using PODS for Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. They should be delivered soon.
I have pictures if you are interested

Many thanks for the pics. Who is the manufacturer of the actual lift device? That information including a make/model would be very beneficial.

Default Swaploader

Swaploader makes many hook lift units. I think they are better thand a cable lift type unit. You do not need to get out of the truck to hook up and un hook. Swaploader has an adjustable hook height so you can carry different sized "platforms".

I don't sell swaploaders but maybe I should.

Here's another one.

http://www.switchngo.com/index.aspx

I've used the system with roll off bodies on a F-550 that we had on the farm I worked on. I did like being able to sit there and swap different bodies. You have to pay attention to what the cable is doing when you're loading and unloading, but works fairly well.

Biggest user, by far, of such equipment is the US Army with the Palletized Load System (PLS).

The chassis's are GMC 4x4's for hte counties and an International 4x4 for PFD.
Pods are 12' for the counties and 20' for PFD.
A 12' flat bed was also built

Default Excellance POD

Excellance Inc, www.excellance.com, has done several PODs for Command Posts, HAZMAT and so on. Dale Leach would be the person to talk to there. Here are some pics of a Hazmat and a Command unit.
