Default Insurance Rebate Money

How does your county disperse the Insurance rebate money to your fire departments? Monroe County takes part of the money and sets aside for maintenance of county owned trucks, part for the purchase of new trucks, and the rest is split equally between all of the departments in the county. (regardless if the department does 50 runs a year or 250 runs)

In South Dakota the money is released based on assessed value of the property in your response area. The department also must meet the requiremens in state law as a "certified" department.

The requirements are;
1. You must send copies of your incident reports to the state at least annually.
2. You must have you apparatus in a heated building.
3. You must have at least fifteen people on your roster.

Departments who fail to meet these requirements do not receive any money. The money they would have received is divided between the rest of the "certified" departments in the county.

Stay Safe
