Cleveland suburbs look to private suburbs

(Cleveland-AP) -- At least a dozen Cleveland suburbs are
exploring the possibility of combining some services as a way to
save money.
Among the ideas being considered by several mayors: combining
safety forces and equipment.
Middleburg Heights, for example, needs 500-thousand dollars to
refurbish a 1979 aerial fire truck used six times last year. A new
truck would cost one (m) million dollars, but surrounding fire
departments have ladder trucks that officials say could be shared.
Other suburbs are looking at merging dispatch operations for
fire and emergency medical services that could lead to more
firefighters being available.
