Default Driver/Engineer Qualifications & Duties

For departments that have a Driver/Engineer position that is above the rank of Firefighter:

What are the qualifications needed for this position (experience, training, etc.)?

Is there a promotional exam for this position?

What, if any, extra duties is the Engineer assigned (apparatus checks & maintenance, etc.)?

We have them, but do not have any qualifications, if that makes any sense. We follow the same process that we use to fill Officer positions (Except for the quals part). This actually was a big debate last week at our officer's meeting. They do truck checks once a week to an assigned truck or small equipment, which should rotate monthly. Only do small maintenance. The majority of the work is sent out, including all PM.......
