Fire College
It's basically 24 hours of training over a 4 day weekend. Course offerings can be checked out online @ www.fsi.uiuc.edu
It's a fun time, much to learn and see. Location @ 11 Gerty Drive in Champaign, IL. About a 2.5 hour drive South from your location.

Fire College is held each year at the Illinois Fire Service Institute. It's a 4 day weekend of training that brings instructors from all around the country to Champaign, plus around 1000 firefighters from all over Illinois. There's maybe 30 or so classes to choose from, most 12 hours, some 24 hours. If you look at http://www.fsi.uiuc.edu/content/courses/ifc/ you can find out all about it.
Used to be free, now they charge for it.Jack Boczek, Chief

Jack, you going? We've got 4 making the trip. I won't be though, somebody has to stay home to make sure the train bags are available.

Told my wife I'm at work. Told my boss I'm sick. I'm really at the fire station.

I would say you need to be a firefighter, but I've seen guys from other states there. Give them a call and ask.
