    Question HazMat Operations Responders

I have heard from a number of "HazMat Guys" that ops level rersponders are allowed to stop (plugging/patching) a flammable liquid (gas/deisel fuel) leak. I have been told that there is an exception to NFPA 472 that allows this. The only exception that I have been able to find is for "flammable liquid fire control". Is anyone aware of the location of this possible exception?

This is where the AHJ can basically train you for mission specific tasks. That is where that would fall as far as rules go. The 2008 version of NFPA 472 is going to spell it out in writing more clearly. But, that is what allows it.

Default Offensive Actions for Operations Level Responders

Operations level responders are permitted to take offensive actions only when dealing with gasoline, diesel, LPG, and natural gas. They are only permitted to do so after being appropriately trained to deal with these materials.

With all other hazardous materials, including other flammable materials, they are only permitted to take defensive actions.
