    Default Earthquake

Who else felt the earthquake this morning? 5.4 magnitude centered near West Salem. We're about 60 miles from there and it definitely woke us up!

We didn't have any calls because of it and there was no damage reported yet anywhere in our area.

We are 30 miles south of DJ and it woke me up. Lasted about 10 seconds from what I was told by another fireman. It shook my house pretty good.

Heaven help all of us when the BIG one hits. Our California friends get a lot of quakes but the New Madrid Fault will certainly cause some major misery.... Again.

I slept through it :-( But my mom woke up and felt it. She said it only lasted for about 10 seconds but a couple other people said 10-20 seconds.

I live about 15 minutes west of DJ and it woke up the whole family, at first I thought somebody hit the house but soon realized that it was an earthquake. Not everyday you feel one of these. I had an aunt call me from St. Charles to see if we were okay and if my grandpa was okay, she felt it there, she actually said she had felt two separate ones and I have read other stories saying the same thing.

We just felt an aftershock here at home, it lasted about 15 seconds, at 10:14 or 10:15.

We are south of Nashville, TN and it was strong enough to wake us up. I first though it was a thunderstorm but remembered that they were not forecast until tonight.

We're about 70 miles west of the epicenter and I slept right through it. Was conducting a fire drill at the high school this morning around 10:15 and reports starting coming into the school that there was a second tremor. Didn't feel that either.

Felt both in St. Louis Metro. Was sleeping at the firehouse and immediately woke up on the first. Then a lady called to tell us that her house shook. Thanks for the info ma'am.

I fet the initial quake this morning. Was eating at the local diner when I felt the aftershock. I have lived here my entire life, never even feeling the small tremors. This morning was really an eye opener.

If you felt the earthquake you can report it on the USGS earthquake website. Follow the link that says "Did You Feel It?" They use the data to track the relative intensity vs distance. There are some interesting maps available there as well.

We certainly felt it in NW Tennessee, though I slept through it. (I've been working pretty hard and got to bed late to boot).

we felt it south of Champaign, about 90 miles away. It sure was a different feeling, not everyday you feel one. All my family lives down in that area, the only trouble they had was a piece of drywall fell from the kitchen ceiling. The fault line down there is pretty finniky, it shifts every 5 or 6 years. We are due for another 1895 sized quake. When that happens God help us.

I was at work. Everyone in the bunk room got up and looked around wondering what the hell it was for a few seconds before realizing it was an earthquake. We had about 20 people call the firehouse over the next 10 minutes.

Felt it while on a call in the street outside Chicago. Looked at the officer for a couple of seconds, then went back to the call. Didn't realize that it was a rumbler until I got up this morning.

Got some calls from people in Geneva and Batavia said they felt something.

Guess we had another aftershock shortly after midnight this morning. The news is reporting a 4.6 originally, but scaled it back to a 4.0. It was centered near Mt. Carmel, same as the others.

I didn't feel this one. Let's hope it was an aftershock and not a fore shock.

I am back in St. Louis and I didn't feel anything either, didn't hear anything about it either though. I agree hopefully an aftershock and nothing more.
