    Default Hi from Toronto

    Good day Brothers and Sisters,
I have been watching from the sidelines for quite some time now, and just now registered to this forum.
I have been a member of a heavy rescue (rescue 1 from 1996 to 2001 then remarked as squad 313) for 12 years. 18 years with Toronto Fire.
We are a complete tech rescue apparatus with the exception of underwater is the reason for my registration. With the evolving nature of tech rescue it seems that our company is being taken off of traditional fire operations more often to be saved for the tech rescue operations. We used to be dispatched when first due crew announced smoke visible, then we were supposed to be added once working fire was announced, now it seems we are sent on a 2nd alarm and above. We have 5 heavies in the city which are quite often run down to 3 personel...another story.
Is this the norm for heavy rescue companies being saved for the tech rescues and missing working fire calls?
I have been banging my head off the walls for about four years (starting to get a dent in one side of the old cranium) without much accomplished at the end of the day.

Now in Victoria, BC. I'm from beautiful Jasper Alberta in the heart of the Can. Rockies - will always be an Albertan at heart!

Welcome to FH, from Victoria. Always nice to see more Canucks on board.

I recommend posting your question in one of the other forums, perhaps Firefighting or Rescue and Extrication? I'm not a firefighter so I'm not sure which forum would be more appropriate, but I do know it will get more exposure on one of the other forums than on Meet and Greet.

    Default Hey

I was assigned to a heavy rescue company before I was moved to the ladder company at the beginning of this year. I am located in the Northern Virginia Area (suburbs of Washington DC). I can tell you that our heavy is sent on all structural fires, and auto accident with entrapment, hazmat incidents, and all types of technical rescues. We are sent on the first alarm for any building or residential fire.
