No, but my interest is piqued. Are they hiring this year?

Yes from May 5 to May 23. Expected to hire by Oct. If you go on their web site and put in an interest card they will mail you an app.

Does anyone know anything about the city or dept? I've never been to Iowa, currently at F.D. in Fla, and looking to relocate.

I actually went throught the process there a couple times and did a ride there. CRFD is a top class organization. They run out of nine stations. 8 of those are single company and the main station houses a truck and a rescue on top of engine 1. Very nice equiptment and experienced personel. Pay is good compared with the cost of living. The written last time they tested was fire team video based test and they take the top 50 on that to move on to the physical and first interview. After the first interview they make another cut to around 20-25 depending on expected openings. Both interviews were simaler questions but the first is with three from the civil service commision and the second is with around 8 from the fire department. The chief and training chief sat in on both of mine as well. I know they have training class but dont know if I would call it an academy. 5 weeks long if I remember. There will be experienced paid firemen testing but don't let that be a deturant. There also seems to be interest in Paramedics but it isn't a requirement. Stong union and good moral from what I could tell. Dedicated staff and the department seems to recieve good support from the city. Any more questions can be directed to this thread. I check it often.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it, and am looking forward to the test. By the way, what is a fire team video based test.

There is some talk of CRFD taking over Area Ambulance Service. They might be looking for alot of medics in the near future

And even if it was open, the entire city is submerged at the moment anyway.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.
