I was in the Marine Corps from 01 to 06 and am PTSD disabled. I served 1 tour in Afghanistan and 2 in Iraq. I suffered from blackouts and nightmares. I plead no contest to a felony child abuse charge and was wondering if I am still eligible to become a firefighter. Any answers to this would be greatly appreciated.

I know you can't be a firefighter in NC if you have been convicted of any Felony. I would think that is true of most states.

Ouch
Heres the Deal,,, aside from the disability which is a different issue all together the felony will bar you from almost all state/local public servant style employment. Heres a way around it.... You need to spend about 3,ooo on a lawyer and have you case "EXPUNGED", that means that the case will be closed permanently, hidden from those eyes that would bar you from say oh well,,,... getting a runway clearance if you wanted a job at the airport. This **** on your record is a black mark and will hold you from gainful employment i suggest you take care of it as soon as possible.
Let me know if i can help further. G-Right

I honestly can't believe you actually posted that question here. Are you seriously wondering if abusing a child is going to be a problem? Are you not really sure if a FD would be willing to look past CHILD ABUSE?
If so, then there's more wrong wrong with you than PTSD.
