There could be a good chance of them being from the West Coast. Some FDs had always had traditionals out here. Some depts. went to traditionals after 9/11 and some switch back to modern.
The Bay Area of Cali is still pretty traditional not only in helmets, but over all operations.
You will a mix of helmets here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww2zlcq5U9Y
Hope that helps.

Majority of departments in NorCal wear traditional helmets unless your Calfire & Marin County. Most of the "LA Style" helmets are worn in the Central/SoCal areas. A lot of paid departments also went to black turnouts after 9/11. To show support of FDNY.

Just to clearify, there is no such "LA style" helmet out there. There is one brand we often see in the media.

Well.............
The Box has been dispatched, and units are "Marking Up" responding......... "Engine 839 with 4"........ "Engine 819 with 4"......... Engine 848 with 5"......... Rescue Squad 818 with 32".......... "Truck 828 with 5"............ "Communications to Chief 818, you have 3 Engines, 1 Truck, and one Rescue Squad with 50 Personnel........"
I guess we're doing OK with it..........

Actually, we'll be a while getting it in service. Radios, Tool Mounting, etc. The usual stuff.......Last edited by hwoods; 05-11-2008 at 04:16 PM.
