My job might transfer me to Melrose Park later this year and I'd like to continue my involvement in the volunteer service.
After doing some internet searches I haven't been able to find much so would anyone be able to tell me about volly depts in the area?

Stone Park is currently looking for PT FF/PM for dayshifts and other shift openings as they pop up. Please visit www.stpk.us for the online application and only fill out the basic parts of the application as the current one is too long and is being revamped. Hired applicants must test into the Loyola EMSS system.

So there are no strictly volunteer departments where I could offer my time as I am available?

Just fill out the application and state that what you wish to do. The only true volunteer department around here is Glen Ellyn and if I remember right there is some kind of residency restriction, I may be wrong also.

Cool thanks. Glen Ellyn might just be the type department I'm looking for. According to their website they have 4 engines, 2 trucks, 2 ambulances, 3 rescue trucks and run 1200 calls/year so they must be quite busy. Can anyone tell me anything else about them?

2 stations, medic service is contracted out. Large spectrum of housing and calls. Large college in town and plenty of mutual aid for surrounding towns.

One thing about Glen Ellyn is that they want you to live there for atleast 6 months before you can jump on as a volunteer. But the Chief there is one heck of a person, great guy.
