A car accident killed two children and shut down the road through Provo Canyon for more than four hours Sunday evening.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, the driver of a red car was pulling out of Vivian Park onto Highway 189. The driver likely didn't see a white truck pulling a camper heading in its direction and was broadsided.
A 7-year-old boy and a 8-year-old girl were ejected from the car and died on the scene.
UHP Sgt. Brett Christensen says it doesn't look like the two children, or others in the car, were wearing seat belts.
"Four went to the hospital and two were killed on scene," he said. "It was a very significant crash, obviously."
The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital.
The road reopened just before 10 p.m.
Also this weekend, two people were killed in a St. George crash; a hit-and-run accident killed a motorcyclist in Roy; and a man running from police in Parley's Canyon crashed head-on into a semi and died.
