I am sure some of you get tired of hearing me ask, but considering there are new members on this site every day, I wanted to be sure to pass along the invitation... So, if any firefighters on here are interested in helping out at the IndyCar Race (and American LeMans Series) at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during the weekend of July 18-19-20, 2008 send me an e-mail and I will e-mail back an application.
With the addition of several former Champ Car teams to the Indy Racing League, there will be a need for several more firefighters at this event. Obviously it is best if you can be there for all three days, but I am sure they won't turn you away if you can only make it out for one or two days.
I won't gaurentee that you will get close to Danica Patrick, but everyone I have worked with tells me that they have had a great time being a part of such an exciting event.
You can e-mail me at ran812@aol.com

God I would love to do this and know some other guys that would also, so I will pass this along.
Too bad I will have left for basic training by then.Just because it's called a throw bag, doesn't mean you throw the whole bag... you're supposed to hold onto the rope.

I sent this out to some guys on our dept who are avid racing fans. Only got one back who said he will be out of town but is DEFINITELY interested in future events and would make sure that he would be availible for them. He wanted to know if he could get an application or info for future reference and just to hold on to.

Send me an e-mail and I'll send back the paperwork in .pdf documents. We had a great event with the Rolex Grand-Am Series last weekend. Could have used about 4-5 more firefighters for that one. IRL is going to be the challenge since it will take over 50 firefighters to do it right...

Working IRL this Friday down here in Richmond. 8AM to close for Friday's event, not able to work at the track on Saturday since I have to work my regular shift that day. Oh well, I'll take 14 hours of OT in Friday.

Bump
With just two weeks to go, we are pretty short on help.... so I am bumping this to the top again in case someone missed it the first time. A lot of action at Watkins Glen International today... Danica almost ran over the Target team in the pits (maybe it was the bulls eyes on their uniforms???).
Check your schedules... check with your brothers and sisters at your departments. If you have a fire card and can fog a mirror, we can find a place for you July 18-19-20!!!
Thanks!!!Richard Nester

Will you take a NASCAR trained Pit Supervisor from Pocono?
And are there decent (cheap) quarters near by?Steve Dragon

Pit road supervisor - I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!
Sure, we can use all the help we can get. E-mail me your contact info and I'll get it to the powers-that-be...
There is free camping at the track for the volunteers. As for "cheap" lodging, there is a Knights Inn in Mansfield that is probably the most reasonable that I would consider staying in that would probably not be filled with race fans. It certainly is not "5-star" but you get what you pay for.Richard Nester

If you are interested, I am sure we can use you! There should be some training scheduled in March or April... you can pretty much make plans to be there for at least the IRL/ALMS weekend since we seem to always be short handed during that one since we staff each of the pit boxes.
I will post something when I get information on what is coming up!Richard Nester

Alright I'll be standing by. I know of a few other guys who would also like to do this if their schedule permits everyone from 36 hr to 240 and EMT to Paramedic and Probies to Chiefs, so once you get that info shoot it my way and I can hopefully bring a few guys down with me.
