    Default AFG Extension Request

Any of the grant gurus have experience with this? The online tutorial says:

    Amendment Requests
Request to Extend the Period of Performance

The amendment request must include the following information:

    * Reason for the extension request

    * Current status of your project

    * Specific timeframe when the project will be completed

    * Explanation of how the remaining funds will be expended
    -----------------------------
Here's the deal. We are worried Draeger is not going to deliver by their July 17 deadline. We have lots of written promises going back several months, but now we are starting to think they may not be able to deliver. We need to either cut them loose and go with another manufacturer, or somehow hold their feet to the fire. In either case, we are almost 1 month away from the deadline. We need at least a couple of weeks (or at least one working week) to request money, cut the check and work through the borough to get everything done. Thus, accepting delivery on July 17 doesn't cut it.

Any suggestions on how to proceed are appreciated.

    I feel like this:

Pick up the phone and call your Fire Program Specialist assigned to your grant or send them an email and explain same to them and ask them what they would prefer that you do.

    Thanks, Kurt. Done.

Perhaps I should have asked if anyone has had success in getting an extension in the past.

Usually not a problem if it is not your fault but have to show you are proactive at resolving issue and have a plan "b" in mind.

In 2005 we recieved a 2 month extension for our brush truck. As Kurt pointed out get in touch with your FPS for help. I explained on the phone the issue for the delay and he had no problem with us submitting an extension for the POP. His only requirement was to do this one time.

Actually if you go back far enough they've basically said that there will be no extensions on SCBA if there are other 2007 compliant packs on the market. Doesn't mean they're going to hold to it, but be prepared to defend your position that those are the only packs that will work for you.

I'm surprised you're having issues with them, thought most everyone was on track by now.

Brian, do you have any specifics on early delivery dates from Draeger?

We have a promised delivery date of June 30, but we have reason to be concerned that if June 30 passes without delivery, we will not be in a position to request an extension.

What is considered "complete" by AFG standards? Like I said above, it will take about 1 week to do the funds transfer through our borough, so accepting the packs on July 17 does not cut it. I understand we have a period of time to complete our report after the project is complete.

These are the only packs that work for us because all the other manufacturers were well over the $5,000 limit when we quoted them.

I have a note into our program representative detailing our situation, and hopefully we will get the extension as an insurance policy.

Not that I would want to cut it that close either but you can pay bills incurred during your period-of-performance after that time, not just do the closeout reports then. So, if they deliver during your grant period, you can still pay them a week or two after the grant period is over.

That said, have you told Drager "hey, its federal money we have to send by July 1st or we loose the money and you loose our order?"
