What is the best way to get pulled in southern CA for Open Continuous jobs? I have FF2, Ops, ARFF, Rescue Tech 1, Trench, Structural Colapse, Officer 1, Inspector 1 and 2, and Instructor 1. My resume was pulled a few years ago (2005) for Miramar and Point Magu, but nothing since then.
What do I need to do to get pulled for more jobs?
Thanks,
K

Resume
I would make sure that you have checked all the locations you want to be considered for on the supplemental data sheet. Heck, even check some that you may not be interested in. There are many bases in the SW Region that are chronically under-manned. Look at NAF El Centro, NAS Lemoore, ... If nothing else, it would at least get you in the federal door.

I applied across the nation and have not been pulled for anything since 2005. I was offfered a gs 4 temp job at Lemoore and China Lake, but niether were from open continuous.
Regarding El Centro, I heard they are under staffed and hurting for people. I also heard there are other bases in the same situation. The only thing I can come up with is they are looking for gs 6 and 7 level firefighters. I only qualify for a 4 or 5.
I did just apply for Corona Naval Base, so we will see how that goes.
Thanks for your help,
Kev

FEDVVFAC,
This is how my certs on my navy resume are set up. Is there a better way of doing this?
Thanks,
K

I know for the Navy you need to update your resume. I am thinking its every 90 days or your resume is not active.

I have a feeling you're going to have a very difficult time until you get your driver/operator certs. keep you nose to the grindstone and work hard to get them banged out. I know my base doesn't even accept resumes unless they have ARFF D/O, Pumper D/O and MWS D/O.
good luck!

Ah yes, the driver certs. I am taking pumper now. I will take ARFF and MWS next and re-apply. Hopefully this will help out.
Thanks for the input you provided,
Kev

Once the application is in for awhile, call the HR office. I had to do that several times when tryingto get on with the Feds.

Certs
Kev,
I don't see EMT or HazMat Tech. These are "must have" if you want to gun for a 7, which most bases are hiring at. And still continue to prusue your D/O certs as well, but I would work very hard at getting EMT. Keep plugging as there are truly tons of openings, just maybe not where you want to start.

I forgot to list my other certs outside of DOD. I also have...
- CA State Firefighter 1(awaiting cert)
- CA State Ambulance Drivers Certificate
- California Class B Firefighter drivers license
- CDF 67 Hour Wild Land Fire Academy, January 2004
- I-100 introduction to ICS
- S-130 Firefighter Training
- S-190 Introduction to Wild land Fire Behavior
- 120 Hour PCF Academy, Orange County Fire Authority
- 24-Hour Haz Mat First Responder, Orange County Fire Authority
- Emergency Medical Technician Basic w/ CPR and AED
- Uniform Fire Code Inspector 2-7-2003.
- Fire Prevention 1A
- Fire Prevention 1B
- Fire Prevention 1C
- Fire Prevention 2A
- Fire Prevention 2B
-OSFM certified Fire Prevention Officer
So yes to EMT but no to haz mat tech. I would even take a job as a gs 4 or 5, if it were driving distance from the OC.
Thanks for your help,
Kev

Have you called the departments that you are interested in and visited them. You can get on almost any base if you call and talk to the department, they can arrange a visit. You need to talk to the chief officers of those departments so they can put a name with a face. Most departments that I have worked for over the years get at least several if not dozens of applicants that the chief or his hiring board go through. I have been involved in a few of them. Hope this helps.
