I've started a citizens group (Citizens for Providence Public Safety) here in Providence, RI to address minimum staffing of engine companies.
Prior to 2002, all of our engine companies were staffed at 4 FFs per engine.
Since then, we've been in the middle of a construction boom. Major development.
And since 2002, Mayor David Cicilline has drawn down half of the engine companies to 3. In October 2007, he issued a directive, through Fire Chief George Farrell, to draw all engine companies to 3.
Significant Risk Being Taken
As I understand it, Worcester, Ma is similar in size. I've heard they staff all engine companies at 4. Can someone get me confirmation
