Consider asking someone who is already working there what would be the best approach in going forward with the position.

In my experience, it usually takes a lot longer than you think it will to complete the whole process. I'd be patient. If you've had your interview (the third step I assume?) I would not continue to call.

I agree, it is a process that takes awhile, however calling the Chief a once every 2-3 weeks is a good way to let him know your still interested and want the job, but not desperate. Especially since its a part time job. There usually isnt a influx of applicants for p/t jobs. (I know it sounds like dating advice).
A good friend of mine was in his last steps of his hiring process, he hadn't heard anything for quite a while, and was waiting for his Chief's interview. With some advice of an older fireman he put a call into the chief. By the following Monday he reported for duty.
The Chief had told him that he was looking for firefighters who wanted the job, "go-getters" as he put it. He wanted guys would show initiative and speak with him directly.
I'm not saying this would work for you but it certainly can't hurt to try, the worst thing that could happen is him telling you to sit tight and wait until he contacts you. Good luck.Doc Flip

What about a full-time/career dept in a mid-size city? Should you call or email the Chief expressing your interest in the job?
