Ok so i took my test last Oct. 15th i went through all the steps, agility,background,oral,ect...
there were 8 of us on the list they hired 7 which left me as the 1 remaining guy on the list.
well 9 months down the road they call me and say we have 1 position open, and your next the academy will start in August so im excited...
Well then i hear a few days later that some of the remaining cities in my area are not ready and pushing for an exstension till October which means i will expier off the list and not get the job.

Actually sounds right to me. It sucks, but it's not as if they did something "unfair" or unethical. Just unfortunate.

Timing
It's sad but things happen and you get overlooked. However there is a place for you......maybe a better Department. Keep trying and you'll get your badge.

Hang tough
First the biggest thing is you should know you are hireable! Even though it fell through they were choosing you for the greatest and probably most highly contested job in the world. One of the toughest parts of the process is wondering if you have what it takes in test scores, physical prowess, relational skills, psych profile ets to actually be chosen. AND HERE IS THE GREAT NEWS YOU DO!
You have probably already talked to them about this but my question is did they actually extend you an offer...if so then maybe you are beyond the timed elegibility phase because you were already selected?

Remember...
Every "no" gets you that much closer to a "yes".
I've been where you're at. Very recently in fact. I was devastated. Couple months (and a few tests) later I got picked up, and with a dream department!
Keep plugging...the world recognizes persistence!

Thats what you get for putting stock in the rumor mill. Let the agency contact you or make a direct phone call.
I dont mean to sound mean, but thats how the chips fall in testing. Atleast you made the list this round.
PS- One time I made #2 on a Lateral list. They knew who they wanted- #1,3 and 4. Sucks to be me.
