Tragic news.....got this on Billy G's Secret List late last night.
We have just received confirmation of a Firefighter Line of Duty Death in Forrest, Illinois. The FF is reported to be from the Fairbury FD and while operating at the single family dwelling fire this evening, he (as a part of a crew) made entry, there was a floor collapse, and fell into the burning basement where he was trapped. Initial reports now are that other FF's were injured but their conditions are reported minor. Details to follow.

this is tragic. My wife is from the Fairbury/Forest area so she may know the family. Our prayers and sympathies to the family and department.

Anybody heard anything about flying our flags at half mast in memory? I haven't. But I think we should. Our governor got a problem with this?

I was saddened to hear of the loss of such a young man. It bears reminding that we are losing far too many of our fellow firefighters in rural Illinois. Rest in Peace Brother.

A guy at work was pretty good friends with him... My thoughts and prayers and the thoughts and prayers of the MVFD/Local 738 go out for the family and the Fairbury Fire Department.
These are really hitting too close to home! This was is north of me, but I've been to Forrest more than once. I just hope that we can all learn a little something from this tragic death to prevent another in the future.

I went with a contingent from our department to the funeral. It was very impressive to see everyone lined up on the procession route.
