Default Has anyone been to the National Fire Academy lately?

Per the welcome packet, I understand there to be no internet access other than the computer labs (i.e. no wireless access)?

I am leaving soon for a resident course there and was trying to plan accordingly.

    Thanks!

Wow! Its 2008 and no WiFi! The NYS academy has it, but it was donated by some of the Brother's out in Long Island (Thanks!).

    Default NFA Internet access....

This is true - there is no internet access in the dorm rooms, or too many other convenient places on the campus. There's a good sized computer room in the basement of Building D (across the hall from O'Leary's Emporium) and another computer classroom in Building M (near the Chapel). Just about all of the classrooms in the NFA and EMI (the one with the dining hall) buildings themselves have computers in them and students will often use them during breaks to check their emails, etc. Don't bring your laptop unless you need it for files you have on it - you won't be allowed to connect it to their network.

BTW - They're also supposed to be bringing back security at the gates....

The last time I was there (October 2007), Dr. O'Neil stated that Wi-Fi access was being worked on, but that there were a number of issues, including the issue of a government agency offering free access.

They may go around this by allowing O'leary's to offer the access at a price, but if that's the case you can bet we will get gouged. (my words, not his.)

Either way, the current access is dial up from your room, or getting a WAN card. I understand that a Verizon card works well.

Does anyone have the gouge on R107 - Fire Service Communication? I've heard alot of folks speak highly of the course but was curious if anyone here has taken it recently.
