someone can correct me if I'm wrong but Illinois does not accept other states Firefighter certs. But I believe your EMT license will transfer if its a NREMT license.

We've hired guys from Texas and Missouri recently. They had to take the state tests for FF2 and FF3, but didn't have to take the class or practicals.

I do have my NREMT cert. Is it possible to direct me to the organization that provides the testing info needed to get my Ill. certs?? Thanks in advance.

The Illinois Dept. of Public Health handles EMT licensure. This may get you on the right track: http://www.idph.state.il.us/ems/index.htm

Your firefighting certs will be handled through the Office of the State Fire Marshal: http://www.state.il.us/osfm/PSandE/Overview.htm

I found this on the OSFM site while I was there:

    1. How do I transfer my certification from other states to Illinois ?

The State of Illinois does not grant automatic certificate reciprocity. All courses must be reviewed to establish if the course(s) satisfy a minimum of 80% of the required Illinois objectives for a level of certification once an individual is employed by an Illinois fire department. The review is based on submission of the course documentation, i.e. course syllabi, training documentation, proof of course completion and a completed equivalency checklist with a money order or certified check for $100.00. The Authority having Jurisdiction is allowed to review and accept legal responsibility for the training for Firefighter II and III, but all other courses must be reviewed by Office staff. If a course is granted equivalency, the individual is allowed one attempt of the State Written and Practical examinations. If passed, certification will be awarded. If unsuccessful, the individual must pass an approved Illinois course prior to re-testing.

The other members are correct, unfortunelty, from what I have been told. I am currently a firefighter on the east coast and was a firefighter in the military also. I am currently trying to come back to IL and have been through this too. ALL of my certs are either IFSAC or National Pro Board certified but IL does not accept them. When I talked to OSFM they said they would need the course syllabus, to make sure it followed the NFPA, then it was a $100 dollar testing fee per certification, and if you failed you must take it all over again! Does anyone know why the state does this?!?! Especially with IL having the nationally recongnized MABAS system and its response to Katrina? As far as your EMTB goes, call the Department of Health. When I talked to them you can apply for you reciprocity, and they will review it. Doesnt nessicarily have to be National Registary. But call them because depending on when your current liscense expires or needs to be renewed will depend on how long they will give you reciprocity for. Good luck and lets hope one day someone in IL will get on board and accept IFSAC and Proboard!
