    Question Tell Me Again

Who it is that is running for President of the United States of America? I forget.....

Michelle Obama To Campaign In Va.

    POSTED: 7:08 am EDT August 6, 2008
    UPDATED: 8:18 am EDT August 6, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. -- Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, is scheduled to make a campaign visit to Norfolk on Wednesday.

Among her stops will be a roundtable discussion with military spouses. The invitation-only event will be held at Old Dominion University. Among those attending will be Capt. Paul Bucha, a Vietnam War veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

In the evening, she'll join Gov. Timothy Kaine for a fundraiser at the Harrison Opera House.

Maybe I'm out to lunch on this, but I always thought that the purpose of the spouse (Male or female) was to stand beside the Hopeful Candidate and look good. Your turn for speaking out will come AFTER the election is over....???

It used to be. Now, spouses often campaign independently, allowing the race to cover more ground. I remember with Bob Dole was running for office. He didn't come to my town, but his wife Elizabeth did.

Cover more ground, that may be. But other questions that comes to mind are:

Who are you voting for? Him or her? Is she talking the same talk as him verbatum or is she advancing her own ideas?

We all know that no two people are exactly alike and that no two people will advance exactly the same ideas in the same context. At the end of the day they may not even be speaking the same adjenda.

Of course these are just my thoughts, brought on by the fact that I do not like politics or politicians in particular.

There has only been one politician in my entire life that I would give true consideration to supporting if he were to run as Prime Minister of Canada, and that would be our Former Canadian Ambassador to the US, but he has apparently retired from politics and moved back to New Brunswick to spend time with family. But only because I know for certain that when he promises to do something, he works hard to make it happen. Most of them would promise a pinch of salt and then turn around and give you a pinch of white sand because it was both closer and cheaper. It looks and feels the same, righ?

FWIW, I'm not voting for either of them

Usually, the wife talks about the husband's platform and sticks to those points. Her own ideas would usually come about after election.

As for politicians, some things are universal. These days, the election is all about the lesser of two evils for most folks. It's a shame too.

That probably wouldn't work here. Write-in votes only get counted if you are a registered write-in candidate. I hear they got tired of counting Mickey Mouse and Ronald McDonald.

There's always this question. If you don't vote, do you have any right to complain?

Always remember, you can tell a politician is lying when you see his/her lips moving.

Sadly thats the delema. To vote or not to vote... but then if you do not, technically you also waive your "right" to moan and drip about what bungles your government is creating.

That comment would be directed towards any country and any government BTW....

    Too bloody right it can!

I was bitching and moaning once about our pollies, and one of the 'audience' said I should have a go if I thought I could do any better. I just told him that I can't lie well enough to go into politics. He was probably a signed up member of a party - he didn't like that comment either.

I've thought about running for President of the United States, but I don't like flying in those big planes. (Small ones either..) Besides, I don't think the Secret Service would like it much when I demanded to be allowed to drive myself everywhere. (I am afraid I might get car sick with somebody else driving..)

As far as policies and decisions, do what everybody else does, let polls decide what you stand for. (Which is usually why nothing good ever comes about, because the poll-sters can make the data read anything they want by polling only certain groups that are privy to their cause, or against something they don't like.)

Rh, I know exactly what your platform would be if you did run: "an Oreo in every pot".

Just remember, Mr. H. Woods would be my choice for Vice President, Rick, aka Malahat, would be my foreign affairs advisor, and for Secretary of State, I might have to try to recruit GeorgeWendt. Doug would be my Media Advisor.

I would need to do some research on Homeland Security. Perhaps you, Firecat, might have some advice on those matters? Superchef would be the White House cook, and possibly ambassader to Austraila.

My slogan would be something like, "Drill because we should, develope because we can, and dunk, because it taste better! " Vienna's for the hungry, and Oreo's for reward.

My plans for working with foreign leaders would include a guided bass fishing trip aboard Triton ONE, and a giant BBQ with the help of the winners of Memphis in May's big cook off. We would become a world agressor, and start wars for the purpose of securing the most popular Bass fishing sights in the World. (Cuba and Mexico, look out!) Ethanol fuels would be banned, and bio diesel would be the new renewable resource. Wind power would be popular, as well as solar panels, but even more important would be the developement of power generation from existing dams and waterways, that are not set up for power generation. Taxes would become a flat rate percentage based on actual income after expenses, including gas and fuels for home and automobile. Schools would be encouraged to end all Soccer programs, instead focusing on Fishing and American Football. Corporal punishment would be allowed, and the Ten Commandments would no longer be discouraged from being displayed in public schools.

Actually I would like to respectfully nominate Cheffie for your Homeland Security Advisor. She is finishing up on a series of classes presented by UMUC, as part of her Fire Sciences degree program.

Also, I am required to side with Shawn about the soccer thing (especially since it is the ORIGINAL football LOL ). I always sucked at most sports, and football was definitely one of them that I sucked bad at. However rugby and soccer, while I was never really great at either of them, at least I was somewhat successful in playing them. Variety is a necessity.

One prospect that you are not seeing is, NO Soccer= No Soccer Moms.. My thinking is that we (USA) usually suck at soccer on a world wide scale, so it is better to continue at things we are known for. I'm all for a non-regulated sport out side of schools. The thing I don't like is the fact that most little league soccer groups don't even keep score. This teaches the wrong ideas to kids. They can't all be winners, so they should learn to be graceful losers. Also, think of all of the World Soccer games that provoked violence. Riots in stadiums, killing in the stands, and no feelings of good will. Instead of soccer, let's use the balls for something that promotes great joy..... Women's Volleyball!!!!

why thank you Rick. As it happens, I love this class! This has by far been the best class I have taken since I started. I am thinking about pursuing a graduate degree in Management with a Specialization in Homeland Security when I am done I like this field of study so much.

Finals are next week and my core class for my major starts the following week (it is 17 week class as opposed to the normal 15 week) This is a brand new class that encompasses the majors from fire science, homeland security, criminal justice, and emergency management. The core class is one that focuses on leadership and decision making and is meant to encompass a multi-disciplinary approach (hence the multi-disciplinary majors). Should keep me out of trouble till Christmas as the class does not end till 12-20.

I second Rick as the foreign affairs ambassador.

I would also have to vote for soccer.

I am not so hot about the Viennas and Oreos.

    Evidently most people on these forums have never heard the discussions that explain how soccer is a Communist plot to take over the world(yeah, it's a conspiracy theory involving socialist liberals and fear mongering ). It is also one of the most dangerous Childhood sports. Think about the amount of PPE that each player wears. Hmmm.. How would you like to see your daughter fall down with a twisted ankle while chasing a ball, only to be kicked in the head by another child causing not only a sprained ankle, but also a concussion or possibly worse? I pray this doesn't happen to anyone. I just urge people to remember that soccer has been forced upon us by legions of people who tell us how great it is for the kids, then, after schedules begin to develope, it will slowly take over your life. My administration would offer a way out. {school sponsored competitive fishing with conservation education}
American Football has been developed over years and years with improvements to PPE that continue to evolve. It isn't the answer, but the differences in injuries and injury rates compared to soccer will be a lively debate for either side.
