The City of Mt. Vernon will be testing this year. The test date is September 13 and application packets should be available by Monday.
MVFD is a totally career department. 24/48 work schedule. We have 27 guys on shift. We run non-transport ALS and all members with the exception of captains are required to be paramedics (you don't have to be a medic to test though). We average around 2500 calls/year, but we'll get more than that this year.
Mt. Vernon has been a slow growing community over the last several years, but with a new city council and mayor, a lot is being done in the way of growth and we expect some decent growth in the near future. The City's website is http://www.mtvernon.com

Just give Josh a job and save all the "testing" trouble for him. Might as well rob another of my guys!

Of course it was Chief! Hell, if it weren't for the Boczek clan, I wouldn't be in this business!
I would be sad to leave, but I'd be equally happy to start a full time career in the fire service. Let's hope I can turn in a good showing come test time!
