Default Never Work In Raton Nm

I need to take the time to warn everyone who is looking to break into the firefighting field or just looking for a job. I was hired as a Captain and within 4 months quit my job. They will hire anyone who has a pulse, and the reason for that is because all the decent firefighters get fed up with all the crap that goes on there that they end up leaving. In the 4 months I was employed there I was the 9th to quit and they only have 16 firefighters. The last group of recuits they hired (6) only 2 stayed.
They told me that i would make 48,000 a year, but when I got there I was told that they were going to pay me $10/hour, far less than the 48 grand they promised, amd I'm not the only one they did this to. I didn't mension that insurance costs, get this, $350/2 weeks and they automatically take out 17% for PERA.
They brag about being an ISO 2 FD but all the documentation that is required to achieve such a rating is all pencil whipped and they have 3 mobile homes for the single FF to stay in to achieve the "maned station".
The city of Raton is one of the worst places I've ever lived in and I'm including Iraq. The crime there is extremely bad to say the least, we couldn't even put our daughter in the public school system because she would get beat up.
I anyone who reads this and still chooses to take a job in Raton don't say you weren't warned.

The job posting does mention several openings with several more anticipated. It is almost like they know people are going to leave.

Interesting....I saw in this month's IAFF magazine that Ranton, NM was one of the Locals on the suspension list for not paying dues.
