I am a junior in Virginia and until I am 16 I am not qualified to take State fire courses, although I have sat in Fire attack essentials and Fire attack intermediate and plan to finish FFI this year even though it doesn't count. So what classes have all you Juniors/ explorers taken?

Hey partner, hope that you know that in Virginia, an instructor can be jailed for a Class 6 felony for letting someone 15 years or younger participate in Department of Fire Programs training.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, and encourage you to get all of the training you can, but if you're not 16 on the day class starts, you can not be in the class. The Department of Fire Programs takes this VERY seriously.Career Fire Lieutenant

Does listening and watching count as participating?

No, but active participation in the hands-on does, as does signing in to get credit for the class. Beware of these things.

I understand now and thank you for the information but the instructor wouldn't let me sign in anyways but just watch and listen.

Up here in PA...
I'm a junior in PA. I have taken the firefighting essentials course offered through our state and down through to our county. It is seperated into four modules:
1. Introductin to the fire service
2. Fireground operations
3.Exterior firefighter
4. interior firefighter
I took the first three and got certified in them. Until I turn 18 I can't take the fourth module. But, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I have also been certified in Awarness level haz-mat, CPR/AED, and General First Aid. I am currently looking into EMT-B training and some others like hybrid vehicle rescue and basic trench rescue.

The BOX is correct! When I was doing instructing for the DFP I always had the Chief of the department that I was instructing for give me a list of names and DOB's. When I was an instructor evaluator I made sure that the students were of proper age. If not, they were asked to sit but no hands on.
I have taken every course that the DFP has had or offered while I was on the job. You need a few certificates do you??

As an explorer/jr I wasn't allowed to get any certs, had to be 18 for everything. But I went to every drill with my FD.
I finally got my my FF1 cert in June, and everything that it came with. ICS 800 or something, HAZMAT awareness and operations, and even Fast Awareness was thrown in there as an extra (thanks Tommy). I haven't had time to take anymore classes at the fire academy. But now I'm in college, and starting my Bachelors in Fire Science, while double majoring in Professional/National Security. Thus far in my 1st semester I only have Intro to both of those.

Personally, I dont think that kids who are in the range of 15 or 16 should take any kind of class, besides the small stuff that most departments teach there departments. Kid's those ages are in high school, and should be worried about there education, rather than something that should come afterwords.

I'm taking FFI/II right now (I'm 22), but we have several explorers who sit in the back and observe the classes and exercises. Nothing official though.
