    Thanks.

Now does the company repeat everything or do you alternate lines?

you say a line, they repeat it back to you. i would start off the first week or so on just keeping in step with a simple, "left, left, left right left" then work into singing it once they are in step. It works out a lot better/easier if you have them run in ranks. For example, columns of 2 or 4 and however many deep. how many recruits do you have?

When I went through the academy for a second time (FL and their lack of reciprocity), I was a bit older, so I was usually a leader by default.

Anyways, I was the one always encouraging team work and trying to get the guys to run together at all times.

We had to run 2 miles in the morning and 2 in the evening. The first mile was altogether in formation, the second mile was freestyle. Anyways, I thought it would be better if our stronger, faster runners took up the rear and motivated the slower ones and displayed teamwork, group cohesion.

In order to motivate everyone, I went online and found tons of military cadences. I then spent a few evenings rewriting them to fit the FD format. I also personalized some and made them funny by using a few nicknames people had earned and I also threw in a few Chiefs names which we only shouted when we were out of their earshot. (It was good for morale)...LOL.

I was one of the few lucky ones as I already had a job because of my medic experience and the academy was just a formality. The other guys were all young and new to the fire service and it was nice redoing the academy and being able to "mentor" within my lane and help inspire the younger kids as one who had already been there in the same shoes and being scared ****less and worrying about finding a job.

I know I babbled a bit here and there, but I just wanted to pass on what I did. Spend a little time rewriting some from online and make a few of them with more personal verses. Memorize them and then see the look on their faces when you call cadence!

Reminds me of civil air patrol when I was in high school. We had an old retired air force DI who would make stuff up as we went along.

    Sound off 1, 2, Sound off 3,4

If you get caught in a moment of silence, you can always default to the fire stations. For example,

I can run to station one just like this,
All the way to McLean and never quit!

I can run to station two just like this,
All the way to Vienna and never quit!

If no one steps up to continue the cadence, just do your stations as above. It's also a great way to memorize each station.
