Could be worse......if you were from Delaware, DC, Nevada or RI they have only thrown up the big goose egg.

Well, PA has already had a bunch. Not too many applicants from NV at all for some reason. Only 6 awards last year for just over $1.5mil (got to help with 1/3 of that ) and that was out of only 27 submitted. DE doesn't have many departments so they're in the low 30s on applications always.

App stats are always good reading: http://www.firegrantsupport.com/docs...FGAppStats.pdf

For how slow they're going in awards and in 1199As I wouldn't get to worked up over the lack of showing in certain states. I think in February things won't look too different than in past years. An award is an award, so in the grand scheme of things let's not get worked up over which round we're in. Like the saying goes, even the guy that's last in his class in med school still gets called doctor. Spend that nervous waiting energy and write some emails to the national organizations and your Congressfolks about supporting the 5 year extension on AFG through 2015. Current legislation ends it at 2010, renewal legislation comes up next year. Members already in CFSI: http://www.cfsi.org/govt_affairs/caucus_list.asp Find who's missing and get on their case....

Interesting numbers on the "submitted" applications by program activity. I'm curious if that includes applications started and not completed.

They show 13,106 for Ops and Safety and 7,909 for Vehicles. Going by our 2008 application number thread there were hundreds less application numbers in each with less than 5 minutes to submit.

    Just curious.

They still in cases where the FD has no available internet service, allow for paper submittal, correct? Maybe the "final" number takes these into account? I'm sure that some FD's still think that they are better off submitting a paper copy (through a congressional contact, of course!).

Could it be that that that many come in by paper?

Although still allowed, paper applications are so discouraged (with the whole grant having to be managed by mail) that I honestly don't think there are that many submitted at all. I am not sure what you meant by "being submitted by a Congressional conatct"; I don't know how anyone would do that.
